Higher income people, by and large, are in Papillion, and military veterans by an easy majority make Bellevue their home, with the city’s veteran population outstripping that of Papillion, La Vista, Gretna and Springfield combined.

Bellevue’s status as Sarpy County’s largest city looks unchallengeable, with its population increase of 3,368 since 2010 easily larger than Papillion’s during the same period (703), La Vista’s (1,385), Gretna’s (619) or Springfield’s (75). In percentage terms, however, Bellevue’s population increase of 6.7 percent was not the largest, that honor going to Gretna, whose increase of 619 people represents a jump of 13.9 percent.

Coming last in percentage population growth, despite its rapid retail growth, was Papillion whose rate of 3.7 percent trailed even Springfield’s 4.9 percent.

Those figures emerged May 25 when the U.S. Bureau of the Census released its 2016 statistics for cities and counties.

Sarpy County as a whole has reached a population of 179,023 and has a median household income of $70,543.
