• DO Space Teams Up With Fontenelle Forest

    DO SPACE AND FONTENELLE FOREST HAVE TEAMED UP TO CREATE A NEW AND INNOVATIVE EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG TECH AND NATURE LOVERS!

    On February 18th, Do Space will be on-site at Fontenelle Forest, bringing several tech stations that feature a nature twist. Complimentary hot cocoa will be available in the Great Hall. Attendees are also granted day access to all of Fontenelle Forest Nature Center (including trails) for the day.

    What is Do Space? Do Space is a technology library, open to everyone in Omaha, that provides free access to the latest software, devices, and ultra-fast internet. Learn more about Do Space HERE.

     

    DATE: February 18

    TIME: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

    LOCATION: Fontenelle Forest Nature Center

    PROGRAM FEE: FREE, drop-in program open to the public (no pre-registration necessary)

    AGES: Event stations are geared towards ages 5+. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Additional activities for parents to do with younger children will be available (see details below).

    TRANSPORTATION: A free bus shuttle will run between Do Space and Fontenelle Forest from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. See a detailed bus schedule below. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

    ACTIVITES

    VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSETS

    Have you ever wanted to become a bird? Now is your chance with Do Space’s virtual reality system! Fly around and see the world from a virtual “bird’s-eye view.”

    WIND TUNNEL

    Wind can be wildly fun! Come explore this awesome force of nature with our portable wind tunnel. Design a small flying object out of everyday materials and watch the air currents “play” with your object.

    FINCH ROBOTS

    Learn the basics of coding with Finch Robots! These bird bots can move, light up, sing and so much more. What will you train them to do?

    3-D PRINTER DEMOS

    Check out one of our 3-D printers in action and get some free swag. Discover all of the opportunities available with a Do Space membership.

     

    FREE BUS SHUTTLE SCHEDULE (TO AND FROM DO SPACE & FONTENELLE FOREST)

    ALL MINORS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. MASKS ARE ENCOURAGED ON THE BUS.

    DO SPACE TO FONTENELLE FOREST

    Bus pick-up location will be on the west side of the Do Space building.

    Begins at 9:30 a.m. running every hour (9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30).
    LAST SHUTTLE LEAVES DO SPACE FOR FONTENELLE FOREST AT 12:30 P.M.

    FONTENELLE FOREST TO DO SPACE

    Bus pick-up location will be in front of the Nature Center at Fontenelle Forest.

    Begins at 10:00 a.m. running every hour (11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00).
    LAST SHUTTLE LEAVES FONTENELLE FOREST FOR DO SPACE AT 2:00 P.M.
    Important: The 2:00 p.m. shuttle will be the last bus of the day returning to Do Space. Public transportation does not run to Fontenelle Forest, so there will be no city bus available, should participants miss the 2:00 p.m. shuttle. If you need to return on the bus to Do Space, please make sure to be at the shuttle stop before 2:00 p.m.

    ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:

    Although this event is geared towards ages 5+, there will be several activities for parents to do with younger children, including:

    • Habitat Hollow (indoor, Nature Center, Lower Level) will be open and includes a variety of nature-based education stations, including a scavenger hunt, make-and-take station, coloring station, baby birdwatching station, as well as a critter viewing encounter, amongst others.

    • Scavenger hunt for plaza/boardwalk (outdoor, weather permitting)

    FONTENELLE FOREST WILL BE AT DO SPACE ON MARCH 18TH 10 AM TO 2 PM.

    On March 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fontenelle Forest will be at Do Space for another exciting, family-friendly event.  The March 18th event will feature several nature-inspired experiences for Do Space participants, including:

    • NATURAL ARTIFACTS – Experience a variety of natural artifacts first-hand. We’ll have animal pelts, skulls, and more to explore

    • TREE COOKIE EXPLORATION AND DESIGN – Come learn about the importance of preserving Fontenelle Forest’s oak savannah through the exploration of tree cookies from our forest.?Get creative and decorate a tree cookie key chain memento.

    • EDISON ROBOT CODING – Practice simple coding with Edison Robots. These robots are mini tabletop robots that change speed or direction based on drawn paths you create. Challenge yourself to design a path for your robot resembling a natural land feature or natural object using our templates as a guide. Or get creative and design your own path. The possibilities are endless!

    • STEM EXPLORING THE AERODYNAMICS OF FLIGHT – Construct paper airplanes based on different birds’ wing structures. Predict which airplane prototype will fly the farthest or fastest. Then, try out your design and see if it wins!

    • LIVE CRITTER ENCOUNTER – Come see a variety of live reptiles presented by our animal care specialist. Learn interesting facts about their habitats, diets, and life cycles.

      Live animals will be on display from 11:00am-2:00pm.
