July 5, 2017 - At the 2017 National Conference held in San Diego, California, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America recognized six outstanding affiliate agencies that have demonstrated remarkable leadership and growth in the number of children served in their community. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands is excited to announce our agency was recognized as the Mid-Large Agency of the Year; the top honor given by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America!

“We are proud of all our affiliates across the country, but these agencies have truly shown extraordinary leadership, innovation, and commitment,” said Pam Iorio, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. “These agencies are making a difference in the lives of thousands of children.”

Agency leaders from Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Nationwide Leadership Council selected the winners of the Agency of the Year awards, based on substantial growth in the number of children served, quality and length of mentoring matches and increased revenues that support the agency financially.

Of the over 300 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide, only three were selected for consideration for Mid-Large Agency of the Year. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands was awarded this honor because of our service to foster care youth and reaching a 12-month retention rate for Community-Based matches that is 17 percent higher than the network average. Our agency has also launched a new Alumni program and is attracting more individual donors to support our programs

“Awards like this are never a singular accomplishment. This is not just a Big Brothers Big Sisters achievement. It signals growth for our entire community,” said Nichole Turgeon, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands. “We strive every day to support children through mentorship. It is truly a testament to the hard work done by our staff and board, as well as the support we have from the community.”

For nearly 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands has provided children facing adversity in our community with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one mentoring friendships.

The donor supported volunteer organization has 37 employees and serves more than 1,100 children each year. For more information, visit bbbsomaha.org or call 402-505-3075.
