Papillion, NE – The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Foundation’s 2024 Swing for Kids Golf Fundraiser raised more than $70,000 for the PLCS Student Activities Fund.

The annual event was held Tuesday, June 11, at Tiburon Golf Club. The sold out event drew more than 200 golfers and community sponsors, as well as employee volunteers from Google and Farm Credit Services of America.

Honorary Starter Bill Gess, Papillion resident and retired Colonel, USAF, took the ceremonial first swing.

Gess is an advocate for local public education. He was an elected member of the PLCS Board of Education, he served on the Foundation Board, and helped lead many successful Community Bond Campaign committees.

The Swing for Kids Golf Committee included Mark Vanderheiden (Chair, Gina V Physical Therapy), Bonnie Moore (Co-Chair, Sarpy County), Bret Abels (Board President, Schumacher Elevator), Seth Hively (PLCS Principal), Spencer Kimball (Pinnacle Bank), Jon Peterson (Farm Credit Services of America), Quinn Texmo (Turner Construction), and Devon Watson (PLCS Assistant Principal).

Proceeds from this event directly support the foundation’s mission to enhance educational opportunities for PLCS students that would not otherwise be possible. The foundation supports programs such as sixth grade outdoor education, scholarships, summer reading and middle school tutoring.
