February 06, 2026KEY TAKEAWAYS
- U.S. LNG is critical to Europe's energy independence and global emissions reductions.
- The U.S. Chamber is helping small businesses connect with the NFL ahead of the 2027 Draft.
U.S. LNG is a Lifeline for Europe's Energy Security
U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) plays a pivotal role in securing Europe's energy future, Dan Byers, Vice President for Policy at the U.S. Chamber's Global Energy Institute, told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Wednesday.
- "U.S. LNG's role as a guarantor of global energy security is accomplished by remarkable economic benefits here in America," said Byers.
- Watch the hearing here.
Be smart:
- U.S. LNG provides a cleaner, more reliable energy source for European allies, reducing dependence on Russian energy while supporting economic growth and emissions reductions.
- Increased U.S. LNG exports after the invasion of Ukraine "neutralized Russia's attempt to weaponize natural gas for geopolitical gain and confirmed U.S. LNG's immeasurable importance to America's natural security and the energy security of our allies and trading partners," said Byers.
- Last week, Europe passed a new law banning all imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027. This coincides with a wave of new U.S. LNG projects that will help Europe achieve long-term energy security and end billions in payments that fund the Kremlin's war machine.
What's next: Byers emphasized the need for targeted policy measures, including regulatory reforms and transatlantic cooperation, to unlock the full potential of U.S. LNG.- "With strong leadership and cooperation between U.S. and EU government and industry, targeted policy measures can unlock Europe's pathway to long-term energy security while supporting U.S. jobs and economic growth and reducing emissions," he said.

NFL Draft Brings Big Opportunities for Local Small Businesses
While the Super Bowl draws national attention this weekend, savvy business owners have their sights set on the 2027 NFL Draft in Washington, D.C.—and the league is actively looking for small businesses to fill the contracts that make it happen.
State of play: The U.S Chamber hosted an information session with Events DC and the Washington Commanders recently on how local businesses can compete for contracts through the NFL's procurement program, NFL Draft Source.- The initiative aims to elevate local small businesses, providing them with a national platform to thrive and grow.
Be smart:- Events centered around the National Mall are expected to draw over one million visitors.
- The NFL will be prioritizing local businesses for procurement opportunities in areas like food and beverage, transportation, event security, and more. An 11-month program helps businesses gain exposure and build valuable connections.
What they said: "Today is all about access, opportunity, and connection," said Dr. Chanelle Reynolds of the Washington Commanders. "The goal is to keep as many dollars in the DMV as possible."
Why it matters: Big sporting events can have major economic impacts on local economies.- The 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, WI, is estimated to have had a total statewide economic impact of over $100 million.
One more thing: Rick Wade, U.S. Chamber Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Outreach, will be at the Super Bowl Career Fair in San Francisco, talking with former NFL star Will Shields about players transitioning to jobs and entrepreneurship.
